Malta-Turkey: growing business and new potential

Trade between Malta and Turkey continues to grow: this was recently confirmed by the president of the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Marisa Xuereb, who said that there is potential to further strengthen cooperation between Maltese and Turkish companies.

Dr. Xuereb recently met with Ezgi Harmancı, the President of the Maltese Turkish Business Council, to jointly assess the current situation on trade, collaboration and investment between the two countries.

From the meeting, it emerged that trade relations were mainly concentrated in certain sectors, such as maritime and construction, areas where Turkey provides a significant contribution in terms of technical know-how, especially for large-scale projects.

Marisa Xuereb’s hope is that Maltese investors can look at the Turkish market with the same interest shown by Turks landing in Malta. But that’s not all: there is also enormous potential for cooperation between Turkish and Maltese companies in third countries, Malta being a place where people and entrepreneurs of different cultures, Western and Arab, can feel at home.

For his part, Harmanci recalled that in Malta the construction sector sees Turks as protagonists and architects of large-scale construction projects, roads and infrastructure. The same happens with the maritime sector, and can expand to many other sectors, starting with trade and import-export.
